Paddle Boat Covers & Hurricane Boat Covers

I addressed this topic briefly in an earlier post discussing paddle boat coverings, but I thought I would further expound on some of the options available to you as a boat owner. There are not only various styles of boat covers that are available, but there are also numerous materials that these covers can be made out of.
The type of material that you will want to use will depend on your climate, and the conditions in which your boat will be stored. Obviously, if your boat will be stored outside and will be unused for long periods of time, you will want a boat cover material that is extremely durable, maybe even a boat tarp. If you are an avid boater, and you have your boat in the water every chance you get, odds are that you can afford to go with a cover that is not quite as heavy as the boat tarp. Additionally, these lighter boat covers will afford you the opportunity to purchase custom paddle boat covers or custom Hurricane boat covers.
An initial review of the information available on the Internet shows that there are several fabric options when purchasing a paddle boat cover: cotton duck, double duck, and polyguard. The cotton duck material typically has some type of waterproofing agent applied to it, it is mildew resistant and UV resistant. This type of material is typically not suitable for trailering. Next is the double duck is a 50/50 polycotton blend and has the same characteristics as the cotton duck. However, the double duck is trailerable. Finally we have the polyguard. Polyguard is a lightweight acrylic coated polyester that is UV resistant, fade resistant, and strong. The material is water repellant, breathable, and mildew resistant. As you can tell from reading above, the polyguard is the way to go if you are looking for a top that you are going to take on and off frequently while pulling your boat down to the lake.
